This is the full recording of the U10 A division final on Saturday Vs St Barnabas. Even though we were not the winner on the day, this recording shows the skill, determination and sheer passion that the kids on our team brought to the field. Please show your kids the game and take pride in how they played.
Congratulations to our very own Sophie McLaughlin who captured the imagination of everyone at the 2017 CYC in Buffalo, NY. Sophie play's on our U8 girls team, who won the A Division title at CYC. What a great ambassador for WestPut Setanta and Gaelic Football.
Well done to all of the teams that took part in our Annual U-8 Tournament this past weekend. Thank you to all the clubs that travelled to play as you all added great atmosphere and color to the occasion. All 17 teams played fantastic football, especially the St. Barnabas Club who made it a unique day by winning the A,B AND C divisions in the boys grade and the WestPut Setanta girls who won the girls division.
A big thank you to all the WestPut Setanta volunteers who organized and ran the event, referees for great officiating and the parents for getting the children there.
This week, we started our 2017 Indoor Winter Program. We have over 70 kids registered and participating from U8 through U14. This years program is already a huge success, with many new children coming in all age groups to learn the game. Thanks to all the coaches who are giving their time to help at all age groups - this cannot happen without you.
See some great photos of tonight's sessions attached. These are our U8, U10s & U12s.
173 teams took part in what is now the biggest gathering of Gaelic Games outside of Ireland. WestPut Setanta fielded six teams with a number of our older kids playing with the Celtics/St. Barnabas combination. The club started in blistering form winning 24 out of the first 27 games we played across all grades, and all teams securing a play-off spot.
On Sunday the U8s who up to this point had breezed through the group stages were defeated in the "A" division semi final by one point. The U10s who fought very hard to reach this point emerging from a very tough group, lost their semi final by four points. Our U12s who up to this point had played some great football lost their final by one point in heart breaking fashion. Tied after regulation time and still tied after two periods of extra time, it came down to sudden death and our opponents tapped over a close range free kick to win by one point.
This years Chicago CYC was the first time Westput Setanta entered girls only teams and a special mention must go to the girls that play for our club. Most girls performed double duty in Chicago where a familiar scene was when the final whistle went in a boys game, the girls playing would sprint 200 yards to another field to be in time for their girls only games. Indeed some of these young ladies played 14 games over the three and a half day tournament in very hot temperatures.
Our U8 girls made some history when they won the "A" division, a first girls title for our club and four of those girls also played for Rockland where they also won the Camogie title.
Our U10s who formed a very formidable partnership with the Celtics club made it to the "A" division final before losing to a star studded Rockland team. "Celtanta" v Rockland in the group stages was one of the best games of the tournament and after a see-saw battle both teams could not be separated.
Finally our U 12 girls would bow out at the semi final stage also to a more experienced and seasoned Rockland team but they also played a great tournament recording some notable victories along the way.
All in all it was a great week of games and a great experience for the children and for the club in general. Regardless of the final score of the many games we played in, it must be noted the effort all of our young players gave, the spirit and pride they all played with was a treat to watch.
Thank you to all the 23 families who traveled to Chicago we appreciate the support.
Finally thank you to all the WestPut Setanta coaches of the various teams and all of the club officers who put in a huge amount of work preparing for the CYC. Our teams and our club were very well prepared so thanks again to all involved.
Our 2nd Annual St. Patrick's Day Dinner Dance was huge Success. Thanks to our Main Sponsors, Aidan Tobin, Kevin Vaughan, Owen McConnell and Pat Reidy. Congratulations to our Guests of Honor, Brendan Hynes, John Myers, Tim Sullivan & Vincent. A great time was had by all.

We are looking forward to a great year and hope to see you all at these events.
WestPut Setanta recently took part in a demonstration game against St Raymond's at the New York Athletic Club for the club members and their families. It looks like a fun time was had by all. Many thanks to Simon Gillespie for organizing the event and the NYAC for hosting and the BBQ that followed.
Last night was the 4th and final day of our first ever Cul Camp here in Northern Westchester and Putnam County. We had 55-60 children at camp consistently each day. The kids had a fantastic time and even though they were exhausted each evening, they did not want to stop.
We are very grateful to Simon Gillespie and the New York Minor Board for organizing the coaches and helping us put this in place. The Coaches were exceptional and really connected with the kids at each age group. To see all the 5 & 6 year old's focused and not annoying their parents for 4 hours really showed the level of engagement that the coaches had with the kids!!
As a club we were thrilled with the turnout and are thankful to all the parents for supporting the camp and taking the time to bring your children. It was a huge boost to the kids in terms of skills and confidence in the game. Without your continued support the club would not be heading in the direction its going in today.

Today, we entered two teams into the Pauline Boylan Coll Gaelic 4 Girls tournament in the Bronx. This was the club's first time to enter an all girls tournament. What a day it was!!. It poured rain pretty much until it was over but this did not stop our girls showing everyone what they are made of. We started the morning with our U8's. They played 3 tough games making it through to the quarter finals. Next up were the U10's. The rain lightened up a little. They played 3 unbelievable games and showed everyone that they are a force to be reckoned with. Seeing today's display from the girls in their first all girls outing proved to all that we have something very special developing in the club. They showed amazing skill, determination and teamwork. While they did not succeed in making it through to the finals, they forced mature and experienced teams to up their game and made us very proud indeed. A big thanks for Mairead Kelleher and Colletter Healy for making this happen today.
I want to say a special thanks to all the parents that got up this morning and made the trip to the Bronx in the miserable wet conditions. It would have been very easy for any one of us to decide not to go. It is this spirit that is taking our club to the next level. As coaches we THANK YOU ALL for your dedication. At the end of the day there were a lot of very wet and cold kids and parents alike but I think its safe to say a great day was had by all!!
Congratulations to our U8 team who won today's tournament in Shannon Gaels. The team made our club proud as punch. Coming off a disappointing loss yesterday, our young stars showed up this morning for the tournament in Queens and not only did they win the division outright!! - but in the 4 qualifying game before the final - DID NOT CONCEDE A SINGLE SCORE!!.
The results are as follows,
Setanta Vs. Shannon Gaels Girls (3-1 to 0-0 )
Setanta Vs. St Barnabas (2-1 to 0-0) Setanta Vs. St Bridgets (1-1 to 0-0)
Setanta Vs Shannon Gaels Boys (4-0 to 0-0)
For the final we played a formidable St Barnabas team. Our team marked tight and shut them down at every turn and kick of the ball. As coaches we are very proud of how they came into their own and defended, played as a team and took every scoring opportunity presented. It was not an easy game. Our team did what they have trained to do. Final Score 3-2 to 1-1
While we have often mentioned that at this level winning is not the most important, the sheer joy on the kids faces (and parents) when the final whistle went really was a joy to be a part of. Thank you to the kids for playing their hearts out and giving us all a day to remember. Once again a special thanks to the parents for getting the kids there, most families left the Mahopac/Somers area at 10am and did not return home until 6pm so thank you for giving your time it is much appreciated. Today was a hard earned and well deserved victory. Congrats again to this amazing group of kids
